Backyard Leaves Scarf
Pattern Design: Annie Modesit from Scarf Style
Yarn: Elann's Sonata (mercerized cotton)
Needles: Denise Circs, #6
I couldn't resist everything I'd heard about Annie Modesit's brilliant Backyard Leaves scarf pattern featured in the Interweave publication Scarf Style. This pattern lived up to its hype, even what I'd heard about the unbelievably brilliant and challenging chart Annie designed to work from for this scarf.
After letting this overwhelming chart sit for a few weeks, I gathered my wits, found some time and jumped in needles first. This scarf is a great challenge and easily understandable once you wade through the first few rows. My only problem was figuring out which two lucky ladies would be the recipients.
With Tannie's scarf I wanted to try a montone effect using two colors in the same family. Interestingly, when you use the chart's center point (if you're familiar with this pattern) as the line on which you change colors, the chart forms a wavy line down the center. I like changing up this versatile pattern.
Susan's single-color scarf, knit in her favorite color, was knit straight from the Backyard Leaves pattern.
