Urban Aran Envy
Pattern: Paton's "Street Smart" ala brooklyntweed
Yarn: Debbie Bliss Cotton Cashmere
Needles: Denise Circs, #5 & #6
When I first stumbled upon brooklyntweed's cardigan conversion of Paton's Urban Aran pullover, I knew this project was in my future. I knew I wanted to try this cardigan in a cotton, and hesitated starting so long as it would be my first foray into working from charts and working with cables. I scoured on-line yarn sources for over a year waiting for the right sale, and finally found what I wanted at Little Knits. Occasionally you can find Debbie Bliss Cotton Cashmere on sale (I've found it at Herschner's, Elann's, and a few other sources, but it's not often sold at Little Knits $3 per skein). When Elann offered their sale earlier this year, the DBCC literally sold-out in 15 minutes!
Finding the Paton's Street Smart pattern booklet was another story. Thanks to brooklyntweed, this pattern book seems to have been sold out everywhere I looked for the last year. I finally found it in stock at JoAnn's.
I've finished the back (shown here) and am working on the fronts. As brooklyntweed suggested, I'm knitting the fronts side-by-side, at the same time, to avoid mistakes. And as so many bloggers have reported, this pattern is great and very easy to follow.
Many thanks brooklyntweed for his detailed and thorough cardigan conversion notes, which I'm following to the letter.
